Sometimes it may not be referencing a quote or well-known part of culture, yet my reference has an origin worth mentioning.
“Unfortunate” – A good friend enlightened me to a very important distinction we should all observe: if a situation was controllable, preventable or otherwise subject to change by human decision, then said circumstance should not be labeled “unfortunate”. This term describes something outside of human control and as such cannot be properly applied to any situation that could be mitigated or managed in some way. As such, use of this term is very judicious here, to ensure it is not misapplied to something within human influence.
“You Know, Dads Are Lazy” – My 9 year-old child nonchalantly said this, clearly it’s common knowledge to her. It was followed with “you know, on TV and stuff”.
